Car Clocking at Surge in the UK! Local Councils Call for a Ban
July 19, 2016
Car Clocking or mileage correction surged to a critical level in the UK and Europe and millions of drivers are driving clocked cars
A Serious SURGE in car clocking has been found in the UK and the rogue car dealers held responsible for knocking millions of miles off odometers with illegal car clocking. These tricks leave customers and car owners facing serious engine repair bills, because after running millions of miles how can an engine perform better? What next to stop Clocking?
LGA or the local Government Association has called for a ban on these unethical practices. The LGA has also warned the manufacturers and facilitators, who offer mileage correction devices or facilities that they will be retained and treated under the UK laws. Why Situation got Critical?
The Local Government Association has brought forward the actual figures of clocking issues. From March to October only, Government authorities have seen a serious increase of more than ten percent in the clocking cases. Government has warned that the clocking practices will be treated as a crime and the people who are involved in these practices will be treated under the defrauding buyers by tempering the actual figures. What action has been taken?
The LGA has taken several serious actions including new laws to declare clocking a very serious crime under the fraudulent activities. The Local Government Association has also called for a ban on the correction devices which are widely available in the market from only £120. On other hand, five people from a same family were jailed for around 18 years on clocking off the mileage on the cars in total of more than four million. On average, they were involved in clocking down the odometer by 125,000 miles on each car.Nottingham City Council in action
Nottingham City Council is in action after that call and the Trading Standards agency investigated number of dealers. Two were found guilty for clocking and they were jailed for more than 15 years on clocking 13 cars. They clocked off more than one million miles on these 13 cars. Another dealer was caught on selling a tempered Audi TT with an advertised mileage of 79,000 but when investigated, it was clocked by 147469 miles. The LGA has also taken action against a dealer who has clocked a Range Rover Evoque by 60,000 miles and an Audi A3 engine failed due to clocking of 1.7 million miles. The owner was happy that his Evoque was just less than hundred thousand miles but, it was clocked by 1.7 million miles off the meter. The LGA has found that the dealers practice the clocking to increase the value of the cars by £4000 on Audi, £3000 on an average Volkswagen Golf and £2500 to £4000 on Nissan Qashqai models in the UK. The chairman of the LGA said that clocking harms the car engines and pose a danger to the life of its passengers. The authorities have asked the buyers to contact the DVLA for previous MOT records.Categories
