The new Honda Civic may not look new by appearance, but under the skin, it’s wonderful

When you first have a look at the all new Honda Civic, you probably won’t feel a difference between it and its predecessor. The big changes are in the interior and the engines. Honda Civic diesel engines are pretty impressive. Let’s see how they work.

The Diesel Engines

While we talk about the diesel engines in the New Honda Civic, the 1.6-litre diesel engine can be referred to as little grumpy. They can become less intrusive under acceleration with their loud noise. It has a very impressive fuel economy – estimated over 700 miles from a tank – and the CO2 emissions are also very competitive. You’ll have to work really hard on the gearbox for the torque to reach its peak, the clutch on the other hand, is light and changes slick.

The exterior

The exterior has also been worked on and now the headlamps are framed by the daytime running lights. The restyled front and rear bumpers now have side mouldings and a rear spoiler. The accentuated wedge shape, what Civic is famous for, remains with this new model. The Sport trim includes black alloy wheels and a rear spoiler is also colour-coded. The door handles are now fitted with chrome.

What interior like?

The door trims and seat fabrics are new, but the most beautiful addition is Honda’s new Android-based infotainment system, named Honda Connect. Civic’s iconic split dashboard remains intact, with all instrumentation clearly done and the controls within easy reach. Other onboard features include the DAB radio, Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming, cruise control with speed limiter, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, and climate control. The cabin is capacious enough to accommodate passengers in front quite well but people over six feet will have to endure cramped conditions in the rear.

What are the mechanical changes?

The only mechanical changes you could know of is to the dampers as they have been created in such a way that will give you more comfortable ride. The steering wheel has also been worked on and now it allows you to tackle the tricky corners pretty well with more confidence. The balance is also delightful and remains consistent through the heart of the band. This new Honda Civic 1.6 I-DTEC Sport is priced at £21,420 with 1.6-litre diesel engine having a combined economy of 76.3mpg and 98g/km of CO2 emissions.
