Peugeot Boxer Still Relevant in Presence of Modern Rivals
July 29, 2021
This van is quite an old one in the segment but every now and then Peugeot refreshed the vehicle
A commercial van now desired to be car like so good comfort level, easy to drive and safety options are expected. Peugeot Boxer lacks these desirous features and also starts looking old among newly designed modern commercial vans. Another weak area is refinement, as the van gives off audible noise when cruising on the motorway.
When you look at workhorse requirements, you find it well laden with high payload capacity, generous load area and a variety of options to suit different working needs. The vehicle has Euro 6 compliant units, which are efficient and reduce running costs. These facts of the vehicle make them a good choice to carry the load. Reconditioned Peugeot Boxer engines are made good to pull as efficiently as new units.
People consider all options present and decide according to pocket size. It is a popular large size van so used engines are present in large number. Over the years it has developed a lot and now the present model belongs to the fifth generation of Boxer. This van is quite an old one in the segment but now and then Peugeot refreshed the vehicle through additions and updates.
This is why Peugeot Boxer is still very much among the top options of buyers of this segment. The price of the vehicle is competitive so you get a good value of money. Its ability to carry a good amount of load is also the reason behind its popularity because ultimately people want their workhorse to do the basic job efficiently more than anything else.
Only a couple of years ago Peugeot introduced an updated version
It is very much like Relay and Ducato because of sharing the platform. Engines are different so you may feel them alike but in reality, these are different vans. These three vans started to share a common platform in 2006 and at that time these progressed a great deal in comfort and ease for the driver.
After fifteen years competitors have made more progress and now this van is not a leader. Only a couple of years ago Peugeot introduced an updated version of Boxer so with most recent developments the van has remained very much relevant in the segment of a large van. Your old van can get under the hood, 2.2-litre replacement engines for Peugeot Boxer. The tough body of the van let you replace the faulty power unit and keep the body in use.
Performance in two major areas of the highest priority still keeps it right at the top. These are payload capacity and fuel economy. You can ignore weak performances in other areas but for a workhorse low running cost is very important. How much you can carry in a load carrier again top concern so Peugeot Boxer sticks to the basics and retain the best ranking in the large van sector.
New 2.2-litre Blue HDi engines have been placed under the hood of different models of the van. It is worth mentioning that in 2016 Peugeot fit 2.0-litre units to replace previous units. So, in a period of 5 years, two replacements of units have been made.
The newly introduced units are installed in Peugeot cars, earlier
These new units have more power to haul with greater ease and more torque is offered with the top model of the van. This is great for van buyers and another important thing is compliance with Euro 6.2 regulations, thus the new Peugeot Boxer meets standards set by European vehicle agency for this type of vehicle.
The earlier engines are turbo diesel units and in compliance with that time standard set by authorities. Thus Peugeot always remains in compliance with the demands and required standards. The newly introduced units are installed in Peugeot cars, earlier so these are not new for Peugeot vehicles. These have been being tuned to match load carrier requirements.
Large vans need powerful units and 2.2-litre units suit them more so Peugeot again move towards bigger engines than earlier 2.0-litre units. Different body designs come in different lengths so you easily find the right size van for your daily work needs. Build for Business is a facility offered by the van producer in 2018 and this conversion possibility increased the choice limit for buyers of this popular van.
This e-Boxer was unveiled in 2019 show
Some premium rivals have come to the segment so it is not easy to compete with these. Being one of the veteran vans, competition with modern vans becomes harder. Mercedes Sprinter is a premium van but the price of this van is also high. Ford Transit is also one of these rivals and many of them also upgraded a couple of years back.
Thus Peugeot Boxer has to face all the challenges. The electric version of the van is also available in the market and it again leaps forward by Peugeot. This e-Boxer was unveiled in the 2019 show so the van producer is well aware of the future needs of van buyers. It was planned to put this in all electric versions on sale this year. The driving range of the vehicle is extended to 211 miles so you do not need to stop for charging even when you have to cover over two hundred miles. It will be a great option for van buyers.
