The board member Olaf Lies, while speaking with the media said, the board was never aware of cheating device or software installed in VW vehicles, In fact, some staff members had acted criminally over the matter, they should be held responsible in their personal capacities. He said, the board only found about the problem shortly before the media broke the story. It is unclear why the board has not been informed with all the details, there is a need of a wider investigation within the VW Group to find real culprits who had destroyed the company’s image and shaken the belief of customers badly. The exact amount of financial damage is still unknown, but it is huge, at one end VW needs to recall millions of cars and on the other end VW also has to face people who will sue the company for damages. The amount of fines by environment protection and legal authorities could be huge. On top of those millions of customers across the globe have lost their faith in VW. It is the fact that all 600,000 workers are not responsible for the cheating dilemma, but everyone at VW will have to pay the price for this huge damage. Mr. Olaf Lies said in an apology note, “I am ashamed that the people in America who bought cars with complete confidence are so disappointed.” That’s the real loss VW will have to bear.
