GM and VW are making headlines in Automobile industry!

The GM factory in Michigan has crossed the milestone of producing one million 1.4 litre engines! The GM Michigan engine factory was started back in 2002. But it has achieved a landmark success in the history of engine manufacturing, as it has made one millionth 1.4-litre engine in its factory in Michigan, USA. The factory has made US$200m by the sale of 1.4-litre engine globally. Now GM intends to make 1.4-litre turbocharged engines for the Chevrolet Cruze and keen to bring 1.5-litre turbocharged vision for the new Volt. According to Mr. Terri Burden (Engine Plant Manager at the factory) “Attaining one million engines produced is always an important milestones” GM is also planning for next big that will be named as “GM global engine program”.Volkswagen Group has splendid entry into Russia automobile industry!
VW Group has installed a 150,000-capacity engine plant in Kaluga, Russia. One of the board member of VW says we are the first automobile company of the world to open 150,000-capacity engine plant in Kaluga, Russia. The company has invested US$279m in building engine plant. It will create 400 jobs for locals. Kaluga engine plant will produce 600 units of 1.4-litre gasoline engine on the daily basis, all from EA211 modular family. The engine will be installed into a Skoda models as well as Polo and Jetta models. The VW plant is part of the agreement signed by the Russian government and VW Group. The agreement is known as Russian government’s Decree 166, signed back in 2011. The key feature of the agreement is, a cut in import duties for vehicles and special grants by the government for partially or wholly production of vehicles in Russia. Thomas Schmall of VW Group says, we are quite hopeful about the future of automobiles in the region and will produce the state of the art vehicles for Russian car lovers. It is important to mention that numerous automobile companies have signed the agreement but only VW has took the initiative to launch its engine plant in Russia after spending three years on building the facility.Categories
